Abstract

Educators have considered social skill interventions (SSIs) as an essential component in the development of students with disabilities. However, there is still relatively limited research on these interventions for individuals from culturally and linguistically diverse (CLD) backgrounds. This literature review was conducted to examine the effectiveness of SSIs for CLD students with disabilities in school settings. Seven studies (n = 18 participants) published between 2000 and 2015 were included, and five types of SSIs were identified. Findings suggest that, when exposed to the SSIs, CLD children with disabilities improved their social behaviors. Some children with disabilities maintained and generalized these behaviors across settings or playmates. Implications and suggestions for future research and practices are discussed.
