Sun, April 30, 4:05 to 6:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Meeting Room Level, Room 206 B

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to examine the ways in which selected music education masters programs were designed to the meet the varied curricular needs of program graduates. Data included: (a) an interview with the masters program director; (b) interviews with two (for each of the five participant schools) alumni teaching K-12 after the completion of their masters; and (c) interviews with two (for each) alumni who went on to PhD work after the masters. Ways in which programs work to accommodate various needs of students are shared and we focus the discussion on challenges inherent in the masters degree and connect this to findings from past studies.
