Assessment Literacy for Educational Policy Makers

Abstract

The second presenter will explore the viability of a collaboratively sponsored assessment-literacy program aimed at educational policymakers. The most prominent target audiences for this presentation will be on the sorts of assessment-related understandings needed by legislators and school-board members—for these are the two categories of policymakers whose judgments have most impact on the nature of schooling.
The second presenter is remarkably well equipped to address the topic. This is because a prominent focus of his career activity during recent decades has been on influencing—in print and in person—the thinking of educational policymakers. Indeed, he was recently recognized with an AERA association-wide award for his success in doing so.
