In this paper, the author argues social entrepreneurship (SE) education through higher education has a significant role to play in cultivating social entrepreneurial capacities amongst pre-service educators, which would improve their capacity to strengthen both social and economic development in society. The author shows using a case study that explicates teaching and learning through the use of the film ‘Who cares?’ in combination with student blogs, creates effective spaces for the cultivation of SE capabilities in students in higher education, which could be even more profound if situated within the notion of “an encounter” (Roland Martin, 2013, p. 19). The author posits that SE education should be embedded in a social entrepreneurial environment that promotes the drive towards positive change.
