Abstract

Ramp-Up to Readiness (Ramp-Up) aims to provide middle and high school students with comprehensive support for college readiness. Forty-nine schools were randomly assigned to implement Ramp-Up or conduct business as usual. After one year, students in the two groups submitted the Free Application for Federal Student Aid and at least one college application at similar rates and had similar scores on measures of goal striving and commitment to college. Staff in Ramp-Up schools engaged in more college-oriented activity than did staff in the comparison schools, and students in Ramp-Up schools perceived greater staff emphasis on readiness than students in comparison schools. Findings may offer policymakers and practitioners insight into the impact of a schoolwide college readiness program on students’ outcomes.
