Abstract

The rating scale Rasch model was used to investigate scale dimensionality, reliability, and invariance of the Screener and Opioid Assessment for Patients with Pain-Revised (SOAPP-R©). An understanding of its psychometric properties and diagnostic utility is important to effectively assist clinicians in its administration. The instrument, administered to 56 pain patients not taking opioids at the time of the study, revealed some problems with dimensionality of the measure and use of categories, however, after remedial procedures, use of categories yielded acceptable results. There is a suggestion of either a misfitting item or a potential second dimension. The measure quality, including areas requiring revision and further research, is discussed.
