Identifying Factors of a Growth Mindset at the School Level

Abstract

This study adds to the understanding of the construct of a growth mindset culture, purported to be measured by the school level growth mindset survey titled, “What’s My School Mindset” (WMSM). The overarching research question was “What is the factor structure of the WMSM?” Scale (Mindset Works, 2008-2015b). A split half sample was evaluated and revealed a second order unidimensional factor of School Mindset with three subfactors. Empirical research, supporting the factor structure of this instrument and its use in interpreting the measurement of a school growth mindset culture provides additional pathways for school improvement and markers for progress toward school goals (Hopko, 2003; Netemeyer, Bearden & Sharma, 2003).
