This paper argues for the transitional spaces present in early childhood studies (ECS) that extend beyond established notions of normative research methodologies. These spaces track with the shifting ontological and epistemological upheaval in many other disciplines, and they actively promote fluid extensions that envision methodological futures and create performative linkages that extend the actions of how children and childhoods function, position, constitute, in relation to the other, to power, and to the more than human. In this proposal we focus on two areas, 1) the theoretical methodological extensions which emphasize the hybridity present in the theoretical and epistemological elements of ECS and 2) the ontological extensions that foreground the material and more than human in children’s lives.
