The Association Between K–12 Out-of-School-Time Science and STEM Identity at the Beginning of College

Sun, April 30, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

This study examined the association between K-12 OST experiences and STEM identity at the beginning of college. Participation in K-12 OST was positively associated with STEM identity development; however, the association varied based on gender and race/ethnicity. The findings raise questions about the nature and value of OST experiences available to underrepresented groups in STEM and the accessibility of OST at all stages of their educational careers.
