The aim of this paper is to explore how continuing professional development for principals can be designed to enhance school principals´ learning for scientifically grounded, effective and inclusive school leadership. The paper builds on empirical data collected in Sweden among principals participating in a one year long continuing professional development course. It focuses on identity shaping, meaning making and transformative aspects of their learning processes. The teaching and learning involved a dual track approach with regard to inclusion and scientific grounding –among the learners and in their own leadership practice and school improvement efforts. In the paper we describe theoretical underpinnings, design, execution and evaluation of the course, and how this approach contributed to scientifically grounded and inclusive school leadership.
