Abstract

This pilot study examined the relationship between online visual training and third grader’s reading performance on the state issued iReady Diagnostic. Third grade students (n = 68) attending three inner-city schools in the same district were randomly placed in groups by school (control, reading games, and visions training). All students completed the iReady in the fall, winter, and spring. For eight weeks three times per week, between diagnostic two and three, students in the reading games group played free grade-level reading games online, and students in the visual training group completed visual training sessions. Spearman’s rho revealed a significant moderate, positive relationship between visual training scores and diagnostic one, two, and three scores.
