Supporting Student Success by Degrees of Student Affairs and Services' Centralization: A Multiple-Case Study

Sun, April 30, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 3

Abstract

Student-centered or student-focused have become education buzzwords. Institutions re-design spaces to create “one stop shops” and shift reporting lines in an effort to find the ideal student-focused structure both from a physical as well as organizational perspective. This study examines how organizational structures, varying in terms of centralization of services, and institutional culture shape the development of student-focused student affairs and services divisions within research intensive universities in a Canadian province. We discuss implications for stakeholder communication, resource distribution, and overall strategic planning.
