This study compared the actual outcomes on several measures of academic achievement and academic aspirations of a sample of students who had attended a K-5 full service community school that included a professional development school (PDS) partnership with a comparison sample of students from the same district who attended a more traditional K-5 elementary school. On the measure of desire to attend college, students who attended the community school with a PDS were significantly higher than their counterparts in the more traditional elementary school. They also scored higher on more New York State Regent examinations, were awarded more New York State Regents Diploma with Advanced Designation, attempted more Advanced Placement examinations, and earned higher cumulative grade point averages (GPA) scores.
