Evaluating Quality of Early Math Interactions

Sun, April 30, 8:15 to 9:45am, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 3

Abstract

The low level of mathematics performance of U.S. students in relation to national standards and in international comparisons has been a concern for many years. One possible approach to improving math achievement is the delivery of quality mathematics instruction to all students as they enter preschool and kindergarten. The purpose of this poster is to introduce a measure of early mathematics teaching quality (HIS-EM) and discuss the evidence of its utility in early childhood classrooms.
