Puzzling the Pieces: Using Heuristic Cues for Engineering Student Design Idea Generation

Abstract

This work will explore how engineering students generate design ideas and explore the conceptual blocks that may prevent these ideas from being innovative. Particularly, we will explore the use of design heuristic cues and qualitative assess the conceptual blocks to this creative process. This exploratory study will begin to elucidate barriers that may prevent early stage engineering students from tapping into their creative potential.
