This paper explores Black Catholic elementary and secondary schools established in Louisiana by the Congregation of Divine Providence of San Antonio, Texas. Specifically, the paper examines the Catholic sisters’ activist endeavors to provide educational opportunity for African American students from 1894 to 1971.
