Abstract

The aim of this study was to uncover perceptions of parent involvement and their relation to academic achievements. Data was collected from the 2011 TIMSS study in 8th grade math. A multilevel SEM analysis was conducted based on a sample of 151 schools, 4699 students, 508 teachers and 151 principles in Israel. A negative relationship was found between students' perceptions of parent involvement and the teachers' and principals' perceptions of parent involvement. The study has shown that the concept of parent involvement is multi-dimensional and open to interpretation based on different perspectives. Moreover, it emphasizes the contribution of parental involvement as a mean to promote equal educational opportunity by developing parental involvement programs especially at schools with low socio-economic background.
