This presentation reports on one part of a transnational field study investigating multifaceted components of teaching and learning civic and citizenship education in the K-16 systems of Costa Rica, Myanmar, and the United States. Literature detailing what needs to be done to better prepare students for a globalized twenty-first century life is available, yet a gap exists in understanding how individual educators use civic and citizenship education curricula to meet the needs of contemporary learners. A multi-sited ethnographic design was used with international field sites in Mandalay Myanmar and San Jose Costa Rica. Findings are presented as a preliminary international comparative model of teaching civics and citizenship education.
