Lessons Learned From Designing and Facilitating an Open Online Course for Educators

Fri, April 28, 4:05 to 5:35pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

As part of a collaborative graduate course project, my students and I sought to design an innovative learning experience to support the professional growth of teachers. We used the Universal Design for Learning principles as a guide for creating an open online course that would meet the diverse needs of the learners. Analysis of the post-course survey data revealed that the majority of participants who completed the course were able to achieve the course learning objectives as well as their professional learning goals. This proposal details the course design and facilitation process and offers insights about how to develop transformative learning experiences for educators.
