Abstract

This paper presents the final findings of my thesis. Using a social justice theory named the capability approach, the objectives are 1)to identify the capabilities of indigenous women to realize the school career they desire and 2)to analyze the ability of two universities to develop the capabilities of indigenous women in order to realize the school career they want. This qualitative research is a multicase study. The cases are two universities in Quebec, Canada. In each university, we conducted a monograph of the university, interviews with the staff members working with indigenous students (13) and interviews with indigenous women (19). The findings document the school system's strengths and weaknesses to ensure the equality of educational opportunities for indigenous women.
