Sun, April 30, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

This paper examines teacher selection of game mechanics in curriculum designed using game-based learning. Measures included an open response survey and member checking events for 27 participants. Game mechanics varied by grade level but the use of quests, instant feedback and rewards were the most impactful for students. This study supports the differentiated use of game mechanics for motivation by level of education.
