Learner Readiness for an Online Multicultural Teacher Education Course: Characteristics, Concerns, and Cautions

Abstract

The online teacher education movement is increasing momentum. The result of this movement is that a growing number of universities already offer or are planning to offer online teacher certification and endorsements. However, much work remains to be done examining the underlying dimensions of online learner readiness in relation to specific content area courses such as the dispositions oriented curriculum of multicultural teacher education. Our current study seeks to better understand the relationship between predictors of online learner readiness and predictors of readiness to learn multicultural teacher education. We must increase our understanding of the characteristics of students who are best suited to take multicultural teacher education courses online and identify areas of concern and caution.
