Chinese Teachers' Perceptions of an Online In-Service Teacher Training Program and Its Results

Abstract

Using a sample of 251 trainees in an online in-service teacher training program in China, this study investigated teachers’ perception of the training program and of the training outcomes, as well as the connection between these two. Based on Kirkpatrick’s model of training evaluation, a questionnaire survey and individual interviews were conducted. Results were triangulated. Results indicate that teachers were satisfied with both the training and the outcome. However, interaction and motivation during training need to be improved. Correlation analysis showed that teachers’ perception of the training program was significantly and positively related to teachers’ perception of training outcomes, for the motivation and satisfaction in particular. Cultural elements were taken into account in data interpretation.
