Abstract

This proposal will: a) share the results of a critical analysis reading, mathematics and science STAAR scores for African American and Latina (AAL) female students for grades 3-8 in comparison with female students from other ethnicities and their male counterparts; b) analyze the findings through the lens of critical race theory and critical race feminism; and c) provide instructional strategies for supporting AAL female students’ interests in mathematics and science using a strengths-based approach.
