Pedagogical Strategies of Preservice Bilingual Teachers When Teaching Art at the Museum

Sat, April 29, 8:15 to 10:15am, Grand Hyatt San Antonio, Floor: Third Floor, Bonham A

Abstract

Bilingual pre-service teachers participate in a co-teaching model as part of guided museum visits serving K-12 students. Art lessons incorporate pre-designed teaching strategies and activities with interactive gallery objects; at the same time, lessons aspire to promote the interpretation of art objects in a way that connects meaningfully with the lives of students. This study highlights the pedagogical, linguistic, and sociocultural strategies that can be contributed by bilingual teachers as part of innovative pre-service undergraduate programs in museum settings.
