Refugee camp schools are regarded as a key lever that supports children and families to ease into life in a refugee camp context, but are also expected to prepare students to transition out of the camp once resettled. Yet, few studies have examined the socio-political factors that affect the provision of educational programs and services in refugee camps at their pending closure. This ethnographic, case study identifies five key contextual factors that affect how late-stage refugee camp schooling is influenced in one specific refugee camp context, namely the Bhutanese Refugee Education Programs. These factors are: 1) teacher selection, 2) teacher training and professional development, 3) incentives to teach, 4) commitment to teaching, and 5) school program funding.
