Utilizing the Educational Leadership Mentoring Framework to Analyze Intern/Mentor Dynamics During the Administrative Internship

Abstract

The internship is the culminating capstone experience of an administrator preparation program at the university level; however, little attention has been given to collecting data from intern/mentor pairs to seek the benefits and possible detriments of the partnership throughout the internship. This study fills that gap by analyzing how two intern/mentor pairs establish, cultivate, and grow during the administrative internship. The research questions that guided this study were: How do intern/mentor pairs experience each of the three phases of the Educational Leadership Mentoring Framework? How do those experiences contribute to the acquisition of psychological safety during the administrative internship? Following each case analysis through the lens of ELMF, results and implications for university preparation programs and school districts are discussed.
