Response(s) and Responsibilities Across Textual Trajectories: Interdisciplinary Research During Commemorative Events in Argentina

Abstract

In this paper we explore what an interdisciplinary team researchers and a documentary filmmaker learned during a week-long investigation of the literacy events and practices of commemoration around the 40th anniversary of the beginning of the military coup in 1976. By exploring how we might, from our particularly privileged vantage points, engage with Argentine acts of commemoration, with the Argentine past, we hope to discover ways of critically interacting and forming participatory communities with other sites of struggle. Argentina is not reducible to those those other sites and histories; but it does bear similarities to them and to the broader structures and processes that affect us globally (neoliberalism, the autocratic security state, torture, violent repression of activism).
