The purpose of this study is to identify the underlying topics, topic structure, and the topic evolution over the 116-year history of education research literature in the Teachers College Record (TCR) from 1900 to 2015. In this study, relying on high performance computing (i.e., a supercomputer), we apply probabilistic topic modeling to identify the topics, illustrate topic structure, and illuminate topic evolution across the entire TCR history. The findings of this study provide insight on where the education research field has been, what the current epistemological identity is, and more importantly, prompt us to contemplate the future of education research.
