Access and Equity: Biracial Men in Teacher Education

Mon, May 1, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 3

Abstract

This study examines the everyday experiences of three biracial male pre-service teachers. Examining the experiences of biracial men in teacher education is the first step toward understanding why they remain significantly underrepresented in the teaching workforce. This study seeks to reframe the dominant narrative about men of color by discussing and revealing the undertheorized racial hegemony in teacher education programs. This study uses a Critical Race Theory approach to interrogate the intersection of race and gender oppressions.
