This study examines the impact on student outcomes of conducting home visits, examining the potential of implementing this family engagement practice as a component of school improvement efforts. Data were collected from 12 elementary and K-8 schools in a large urban city. Using doubly robust weighted regression to estimate the average treatment effect of home visits on student attendance and reading comprehension, analyses showed that students who received a home visit had higher attendance and were more likely to score at least proficient on reading comprehension assessments. These results have implications for the use of home visits in K-12 school reform efforts.
