Abstract

We share our life stories as they relate to collaboration with the aim of addressing access for college students and staff across a university and an indigenous community setting. As we explore degree attainment for Ojibwe community members and field experiences for university students, the impact of life stories has relevance. With consideration of decolonizing and duoethnography methodologies, we share our experiences as students and professors along with our heritages as colonizer and colonized to create a polyvocal analysis. In a friendship that crosses racial lines to provide opportunities for native students to enter the world of higher education, we propose that thoughtful, respectful and brave approaches become necessary to break apart and address the dangerous dynamic of internal colonization.
