This paper presentation will describe the specific correlation found between teachers who have commitments to Disability Studies in Education (DSE) and their desires to leave the profession of teaching in today’s public schools. It will highlight how the lack of consistent and authentic administrative and institutional support in their underlying beliefs led participants to feel increasingly isolated from their schools, and in their work as teachers. Further, the presentation will discuss the specific emotions and seclusion participants experienced in attempting to enact their commitments which in turn exacerbated participants’ understanding of their place in their particular school systems and in schooling more broadly.
