Sun, April 30, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Street Level, Stars at Night Ballroom 4

Abstract

Rigorous scholarship using a variety of methodologies is essential to the continued growth of the field of group work, yet this type of counseling intervention poses challenges for quantitative research. This proposal reviews unique challenges to quantitative group research, assesses current practice with a content analysis of recent quantitative research in the Journal for Specialists in Group Work, and provides recommendations for best practices in designing, analyzing, and reporting quantitative research. Results of the content analysis revealed that group researchers are inconsistent in terms of accounting for and acknowledging the strengths and limitations of quantitative designs and analyses. Based on these findings, we review suggestions for quantitative research based on recent developments in statistical methodology.
