Decolonial Education and Poetry for Democracy in Mexico Within the Latin American Context

Abstract

This paper shows how a group of students, from a middle school in one of the poorest and most violent neighborhoods in Zapopan, México, make poems to express how the notion of thin and thick democracy on education make sense for them (Carr, 2011). In light of the perspective of how Latin American poetry can be source of funds of philosophy of education (Fregoso, 2015a), the students make poems to describe how they are peripheral poets that can enrich the connection between democracy and descolonial education (Fregoso, 2015a) in Latin America.
