Cultivating and maintaining assets-based dispositions toward Black and/or Latino young men is necessary for teachers to promote those students’ college-going; teachers will not prepare their Black and/or Latino male students for success if teachers maintain low expectations of those students (Villegas, 2007). The purpose of this qualitative study is to examine what types of experiences in a school-based professional development (PD) series designed to promote a culturally relevant, school-wide, college-going culture 40 teachers from two urban high schools in the Northeast region of the United States identified as supportive in their development of asset-based dispositions toward Black and/or Latino male students.
