Abstract

The purpose of this critical ethnographic study was to examine the experiences of doctoral students traversing the doctorate. Specifically, the nature and meaning of cultural ecology of leadership preparation in a doctoral program. The ethnography focused on critical incidents experienced by doctoral students. The ethnographic study drew from Steward’s (2005) writings on cultural ecology to frame a lens for examining the cultural forces at work in and through an ecology of the preparation program. The authors the importance of framing and examining the cultural ecology of leadership preparation that is defined, in part, by developing social justice leaders.
