Review of Educational Research on Learning With Social Network Sites Among Teenagers

Abstract

As social networking becomes an integral part of young people’s routines, social network sites are attracting interest from educators and learning scientists as potential platforms for online learning. While there is some evidence that social network sites can support the development of valuable social resources for young people (Author 2 et al., 2011; Ellison, Steinfeld, & Lampe, 2007), research on the uses of social network sites to support learning has been less frequent. In this paper, we review the educational research (2010-2014) on learning with social network sites among teenagers (ages 12-18). Based on the review of literature, we also provide synthesis of the current research trends and implications for future research and practices.
