Sat, April 29, 2:45 to 4:15pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Street Level, Stars at Night Ballroom 4

Abstract

This study reports on the perspectives of school counselors throughout one Mountain West state, specifically the impact accountability and school reform policies have on school counselors. The researchers not only analyzed factors that led to greater job satisfaction of school counselors, but they also measured and analyzed factors such as working with peers, counseling provided, pay, supervision provided by supervisor, and shared leadership opportunities. This research project hopes to identify the important leadership that is provided by school counselors in addition to their support of school children. Additionally, this study offers important data that can be used in professional development offered to practitioners, particularly from the central office perspective when thinking about the strategic use of human resources.
