The work presented in this paper offers an analysis of the kind of radicalized learning space that exists in prison (Geraci, 2005). The study also describes the findings of a multiyear study that tracks the development of the ways in which the literacy narratives of incarcerated students are continually revised through the transformative power of creative writing. The narratives help underscore the value of literacy performance to promote self-efficacy in even the most dehumanizing of circumstances (Appleman, 2013
