A High School Bioenergy Assessment: Instrument Development and Supporting Valid Inferences

Abstract

Research Goes to School is an NSF-funded project that seeks to develop a model for incorporating advanced scientific research into High School STEM classrooms. The model was developed and tested using research on the conversion of biomass to bio-fuels, as this content is both accessible and relevant to high school students. In the absence of literature describing validated bioenergy assessments for high school level students, we developed a high school bioenergy test. The test development process is described in this paper. Multiple sources of validity evidence of bioenergy assessment were collected. We hope to promote the use of this bioenergy topic in instructional practices by equipping teachers with a well-established, sound, and coherent bioenergy assessment.
