Part-Time College Students' Views on Their Own Behavior in English Writing Classes: A Preliminary Study

Abstract

This paper reports on a preliminary investigation into part-time college students’ views on their own behavior in English writing classes during which learners are entitled to have access to computers for practice. A total of 68 EFL students enrolled in the evening session of the Applied Foreign Languages department at a university of science and technology in northern Taiwan participated in this study. Questionnaire surveys were conducted with a primary focus on various inappropriate behaviors stated in the classroom conduct code. Initial findings showed that the majority of participants were highly engaged in classroom activities. However, some were also involved in other activities. Chatting with classmates might be a more serious problem against the rules from students’ perspective.
