Using the social cognitive career theory (SCCT) as theoretical guides, this meta-analysis examined the role of different racial/ ethnic and gender groups on three components of career choice: (1) career choice/aspirations, (2) perceptions of opportunities and obstacles in career choice, and (3) career decision-making and explorations. Results demonstrated that (a) both race/ ethnicity and gender groups did not yield significant differences in (a) career choice/ aspirations and (b) career decision-making and explorations. However, there were significant differences between gender groups in perceptions of career-related opportunities and barriers.
