Sun, April 30, 2:15 to 3:45pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

The student population of the United States has become increasingly diverse. This issue challenges many aspects of educational implementation and outcome. For the purpose to achieve the goal of equality and equity, teacher education plays a significant role in preparing prospective teachers with comprehensive content knowledge, teaching capacities, and sociocultural competence to create inclusive classrooms and meet the needs of students from diverse backgrounds. This research explored secondary preservice teachers’ awareness and their pedagogy of multicultural education during student teaching and examined how preservice teachers apply the knowledge and skills they learned to practice. Results offered insights into the effectiveness and consistency of multicultural studies in teacher preparation and preservice teachers’ implementation of multicultural content in applied settings.
