Sun, April 30, 10:35am to 12:05pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

This contribution aims to investigate the learning process of newly hired geriatric care nurse assistants. The main focus of this interview study with 14 German geriatric nurses was to identify (1) knowledge that is hard to learn but simultaneously highly important for the daily job as a nurse assistant as well as (2) already existing activities and strategies that help to acquire such hard-to-learn knowledge because of their inherent pedagogic characteristics. The findings of this study will be used to derive practical implications of how to improve the current learning process of such nurse assistants.
