Abstract

In this paper, we report on first results from a new self-efficacy questionnaire for early childhood educators. The questionnaire focuses on educators´ beliefs in their competencies to assess and promote children´s early language, mathematical, and social-emotional skills, respectively. Factor analyses indicate that our sample of 368 German early childhood educators did not differentiate between self-efficacy regarding assessment and promotion of skills. They reported significantly different beliefs in the three domains however, with self-efficacy regarding language skills being the strongest, and regarding math the weakest. Possible explanations for these results and ideas for further research are discussed.
