Within narrative inquiry, researchers must negotiate the relational ethics involved in being in relation with their participants and be particularly aware of moments in which they are confronted by their own judgment, privilege, identity and risk. In this paper, two researchers explore such moments during their lived experiences gathering field texts and moving towards interim research texts in their respective studies. In confronting their own participation in the living, telling and retelling of stories, they come to relive difficult narratives, care more deeply for their participants and deepen their understanding of relational methodology.
