Identifying and Tracking Markers of Leadership in an Urban Principal Preparation Program

Sun, April 30, 12:25 to 1:55pm, Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center, Floor: Ballroom Level, Hemisfair Ballroom 1

Abstract

The purpose of this paper is to describe how one urban principal preparation program is growing its own capacity to monitor and assess the trajectory of leadership growth during its clinical residency in an effort to improve program coherence. The premise of this work is that better assessment of candidate development, in real time, can help us better understand the developmental markers that most often seem to characterize the development of novice leaders. By better understanding developmental markers, we hypothesize that academic and clinical faculty will be better positioned to help novice leaders get the maximum possible return from their residency experience.
