Continuing the Spiral: Ecofeminism, Eco-Justice, and Mathematics Education

Abstract

This poster presents a new theoretical conception of EcoJustice Education that is situated within mathematics education and influenced by critical perspectives from ecofeminist philosophies in education. The colonizing force of a global discourse of mathematics education unarguably has escalated environmental and social catastrophes and, in the vein of public scholarship we aim to illustrate alternative perspectives for mathematics education to address the challenges of the next hundred years. Specifically, we portray an eco-critical perspective in mathematics education that pushes the boundaries of critical mathematics education (CME) by examining CME through an EcoJustice educational framework. From such conceptual research what emerges is a framework we term EcoJustice Mathematics Education (EJME).
