Abstract

Eisner (2002) envisioned art education as “a way of creating our lives by expanding our consciousness, shaping our dispositions, satisfying our quest for meaning, establishing contact with others, and sharing a culture” (p. 3). This paper examines how creating a life in this manner invites nourishment and reconnection. Aesthetic experiential play, and its ensuing swell and afterglow, are conceptualized as dynamic forces that productively illuminate barriers to art teacher renewal—discussing how such obstacles impinge upon and restrict new movement, and what else is possible to imagine. Interweaving letterpress postcards and handwritten letters, insightful narratives aim to portray how things become- with unfolding time, fluctuating speeds, and generative uncertainty as art teachers seek renewal in their teaching and creative practices.
